The California Code of Regulations (CCR s) states that all California local health departments will provide the, ''collection, tabulation and analysis of all public health statistics, including but not limited to population data, natality, mortality and morbidity records,” (17 CCR s 1276). Epidemiology Services fulfills this function by conducting routine surveillance by collecting and analyzing health indicators and epidemiological data necessary to interrupt disease outbreaks, prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and identify and respond to preventive health service needs in the community.
