The Sacramento Crisis Nursery offers a safe, temporary shelter for children whose parents are in crisis. Children up to age six may stay for up to 30 days while their parents receive counseling, referrals to community agencies and other free support services. Placement is voluntary and all information is confidential. A second Crisis Nursery in north Sacramento opens in June 2002.
The nursery focuses on children up to age six because they are at greater risk of abuse and neglect, especially if they come from families affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, homelessness, mental illness and poverty.
The nursery is the result of collaboration between the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento, the Junior League of Sacramento and the Sacramento Children’s Home.
