Children need to be properly restrained when traveling in vehicles. Did you know that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 4 out of 5 car seats are not installed correctly? The ChIIP Program seeks to ensure that children are properly restrained each time they ride in a vehicle.

Our Program Seeks To:

  • Educate parents on the importance of using child safety seats properly by conducting 1 hour car seat fitting appointments.
  • Demonstrate how to properly install child safety seats.
  • Provide 2 hour Car Seat Safety Training’s for Childcare providers, law enforcement personnel, fire fighters, nurses, health care workers, community outreach worker, social workers, and home visitors.

Parent Classes & Provider Trainings:

Parent Car Seat Safety Fitting Appointment (1 Hour)
During this 1-hour fitting appointment basic car seat safety issues are discussed for $30 and parent leaves with a properly fitting car seat ($15 if demonstrate low-income eligibility). The main areas of discussion are the importance of using a car seat, California law, parts of a car seat and a demonstration of how to install and place a child in a car seat. Appointments are scheduled 2 times per month.

Provider Car Seat Safety Training (3 Hours)
This training discusses in detail proper installation of car seats, parts of car seats, seat belt systems, misuse of car seats, hands on exercises in vehicles and with car seats, California Law and much more. This training is a perfect introduction into car seat safety for community outreach educators, first responders, nurses, childcare providers, health care workers and anyone who transports children on a daily basis. This training is an excellent pre-requisite for those who are interested in becoming a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Certified Child Passenger Technician.
