What happens after CPS removes a child from the home?
What must parents do to have their children returned to them?
What happens in a dependency court hearing?
What is the role of the social worker?
These questions and more are answered in a DVD aimed at helping parents with children involved with CPS understand the child welfare system.
“A Family’s Journey: What You Need to Know About CPS” was created by Sacramento County CPS for families. It is also useful for people who work with children and families or who want more information about child welfare.
It explains what a case plan is and what to expect at a dependency court hearing, and includes testimonials from CPS parent leaders who have successfully reunified with their children.
The DVD is available through the Sacramento public library system and some community-based agencies, including Birth and Beyond family resource centers.
You can view it online on the SacTV site of the Sacramento County website, under "Informational Videos/Social Services:"
