The Adult Psychiatric Support Services (APSS) Clinic is a mental health outpatient clinic designed to serve Medi-Cal beneficiaries in need of mental health services. Individuals in Sacramento County who have CalWORKs program eligibility or who have Medi-Cal coverage through managed care and meet certain expanded target population criteria are eligible for service. Individuals are referred to the APSS Clinic by their CalWORKs Clinical Team counselor or by the Sacramento County Adult ACCESS Team for psychiatric medication evaluation, and other services based on individual need.
APSS provides mental health services in cooperation with UC Davis, Department of Psychiatry. A variety of professionals, all trained to treat mental health issues, work with individuals at the APSS Clinic: psychiatrists, resident psychiatrists, medical students under supervision, psychologists, post-doctoral degree psychologists, mental health counselors, and nurses provide a number of special treatments. Some of the services provided at APSS are; medication evaluation and monitoring, group psychotherapy, some individual psychotherapy, case coordination services, and psychological testing as needed.
Individuals who do not need inpatient hospitalization and who do not qualify for services at the County’s Regional Support Teams (RST's) for serious and persistent mental illness receive beneficial and culturally competent professional treatment at the APSS Clinic. The APSS Clinic uses interpreters from agencies contracted with Sacramento County to assist individuals from a variety of cultures and languages in receiving warm, welcoming, and professional support.
